This is a set of 24 sticks in two lengths.  The woods shown above, from lightest to darkest, are holly, madrone burl, purpleheart, and zircote.

sticks connect as shown:

In a variation on this assembly, the magnets are eliminated and the sticks are glued together in groups of three.
coordinate motion puzzle
Quite challenging to put back together, this type of assembly is called a coordinate motion puzzle.
