Woods
Here are pictures of dozens of kinds of wood that come from all over the world. In some the color will change significantly over time, usually getting darker or, in some cases, lighter. The change happens quicker with exposure to direct sunlight. Also, the same kind of wood can look very different from tree to tree. For an extreme example, see the 13th picture that shows two pieces of Cocobolo rosewood.
For the stick assemblies with embedded magnets, dense woods work best. We've used close to 100 different kinds and are always interested in trying new ones. (Note that some wood pictured here is from boards acquired many years ago but has since become endangered and no longer available.) |
